Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

The Kingsport VITA program offers free tax preparation to individuals who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:

 

People who generally earn up to $67,000

Persons with disabilities

Senior Citizens

Limited English-speaking Individuals

This year we are offering tax prep in both Kingsport and Blountville,

as well the option for in-person or online filing.

Steps to take for in-person assistance

1. Clients must call 423-483-2962 to schedule a drop-off appointment or schedule online with the links below.

2. Appointments are held at the Riverview Community Room located off Wheatley Street in Kingsport on Monday evenings and Thursday evenings and at the Sullivan County Public Library in Blountville on Tuesday Evenings and Thursday Afternoons. 

3. Please bring all required documents including identification and social security cards. See "What to Bring" for a list of required documents. 

4. Clients will return to the site (typically the same week) to review the completed return(s) with a qualified tax preparer. Clients will then be able to ask questions and sign their return to be e-filed. 

Steps to take for online tax preparation

1. Visit www.getyourrefund.org/kingsport

2. Create an account and follow the directions to upload your documents. 

3. Once our return is complete, you will receive an email to sign your documents online. 

4. Your return will then be e-filed.

Directions Kingsport Location: V.O. Dobbins Riverview Community Room

From Wilcox Dr: Enter from the Wheatley Street side of the complex. Parking is available directly beside the pickleball courts.

The Riverview Community room is located at the end of the parking lot. Please look for the signs labeled “VITA”.

Directions Blountville Location: Sullivan County Public Library

From I-81: Take exit 69. Follow signs for Blountville/Bristol/Bristol Speedway and merge on TN-394 E. Take 394 E to Blountville Bypass.

Continue onto Blountville Blvd. Sullivan County Public Library is on the left.
