KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE – United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) hosted its 2019 Annual Meeting on February 11, 2020 with approximately 100 people in attendance, including those who GIVE, ADVOCATE, and VOLUNTEER on behalf of the organization, representatives from UWGK Member Agencies, community partners and public officials from the City of Kingsport.
This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Jeff Moorhouse, Superintendent of Kingsport City Schools. His topic was “The Portrait of a Graduate.” Moorhouse spoke on the importance of our youth and the role they will play in our community for years to come, as well as the investment being made in the children’s lives by our educators. “Because of your investment, you’ve allowed our students to find their passion and strengths.” Moorhouse went on to express appreciation to all of Kingsport for the positive role that we collectively play in the lives of our youth.
UWGK then recognized all 2019 outgoing board members and expressed their appreciation for their dedication to the organization. After recognizing the outgoing board, Parker presented the UWGK Live United awards to Olan Jones and Cari Parker. Olan Jones, former CEO of Eastman Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of UWGK. Jones has been a major role player in the ECU campaign and has also been a recent chair of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society for UWGK. Cari Parker was also a recipient of the Live United award this year. Cari, a long-time Eastman employee, has been a leader with United Way of Greater Kingsport throughout much of her life. Parker’s volunteer experience extends far beyond her roles with UWGK and includes several other non-profits in the region.
At the meeting, a motion was presented to affirm the 2019 UWGK Board of Directors slate. This motion was approved, and the 2020 UWGK Board of Directors was introduced:

After the awards, Brian Miller, 2019 UWGK Board of Directors President, reflected on his year as the UWGK Board President by saying, “We live in a generous community, but what impresses me is the number of volunteers we have. We have a community full of problem solvers helping.”
Mayor Pat Shull presented Brian Miller with a commendation from the City of Kingsport on behalf of the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Alderman for their leadership, vision, and support of the United Way of Greater Kingsport. Miller then turned his gavel over to Keith Parker, 2020 UWGK Board of Directors President, who officially adjourned the meeting.
