KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE – United Way of Greater Kingsport has made a direct and positive impact in the community through the disbursement of more than $50,000 to local non-profit organizations who are working directly with those who are being most affected by COVID-19. Due to the generosity of those donating to the UWGK COVID-19 Relief Fund, twenty-five grants of $500 were granted to member agencies and other community organizations that have been used for various purposes including, but not limited to the purchase of cleaning supplies, the increased cost of staffing and operational cost, the purchase of telecommunications equipment for mental health counseling, the purchase of coolers for individuals receiving lunches from Meals on Wheels of Kingsport, and much more. Donations from the UWGK COVID-19 Relief Fund have also been directed to the scholarship support of the Emergency Bridge Project at the YMCA of Kingsport, the housing of nine families through Friends & Neighbors, the purchase implementation of a frozen meal program at Meals on Wheels of Kingsport, the purchase of 500 food boxes for families in need through Second Harvest Food Bank, and more.
“We understand the struggle that so many of our friends and neighbors are going through right now and want to do our best to support the organizations who are directly working with the most vulnerable population in our community,” says Danelle Glasscock, Executive Director of United Way of Greater Kingsport. “Our organization is uniquely positioned to be a hub of helping, both for those who want to give help and those who are looking to get help.”
